PCOS that is, Polycystic Ovary Syndrome, is one of the common conditions in women. This is becoming a very common condition in women of all ages. It is observed that about 10% of women suffer from PCOS. It is seen that the syndrome occurs mostly in the childbearing ages. PCOS results in disturbed menstrual cycles, excess androgen secretion, increase in weight, accumulation of abdominal fat, resistance to insulin resulting in increased risk of diabetes. Some of the observable effects of PCOS are acne, hair growth, weight gain, and dark skin patches are other symptoms of the condition.

Women with PCOS have increased the risk for infertility, metabolic syndrome, sleep apnea, endometrial cancer, and depression. All the symptoms have a deep effect on a woman’s fertility. It makes it difficult to conceive, increases the complications during pregnancy and also increases the risk of miscarriage.

Many women ignore the PCOS symptoms and miss out on seeing a doctor. You should see a doctor if you are facing any of the above problems. PCOS is a treatable syndrome. The sooner it is identified, the sooner it can be treated.

PCOS can be treated with medications and also by leading a healthy lifestyle with a proper diet and regular exercise.
